New Music Friday - 15/02/2019

It’s that time of the week again--Livewire is back with your New Music Friday roundup, and it’s a damn good one. We've got tracks from some R&B legends, some indie legends, and jazz newcomers. Music's never sounded so sweet.

Foals - On The Luna

The second track from the Oxford band’s upcoming album, ‘On the Luna’ is the infectious follow-up to ‘Exits’. Foals are gearing up for the release of their two albums this year, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 & Part 2. ‘On the Luna’ has sweet hooks, emotive guitars, and retro-tinged keyboards.

Alicia Keys - Raise A Man

The American R&B queen is back--after her stunning 2-piano performance at this years Grammy Awards, Alicia Keys’ new single ‘Raise A Man’ solidifies her status even more. This track is soulful, authentic; carrying over vintage piano melodies and true ‘70s style, this track is a standout of the week.

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Fluctuate

It’s more of the same from the indie rockers--and if it’s your cup of tea, then great. ‘Fluctuate’ carries the same design of the band’s previous albums, and the same sound. The new single comes from their upcoming third album, Balance.

Ezra Collective - Quest For Coin

Ezra Collective are one of the neo-jazz movement’s standout performers. Even though they’ve not yet released an album, the collective’s combination of smooth, beats, African rhythms, and elements of hip-hop make sure they’re one of the genre’s most exciting groups. Their new single ‘Quest For Coin’ is proof of this, led by a swift trumpet and energetic percussion.

Hozier - Dinner & Diatribes

Hozier did so well with his EP, Nina Cried Power, released back in September. It contained some of his best tracks to date, and showcased an evolution in style--this addition of soul to his singer-songwriter acoustic vibe did him a world of good. New single ‘Dinner & Diatribes’ feels a natural change as well, with energetic rolling guitar hooks and trademark Hozier vocals.

Lizzo - Cuz I Love You

Lizzo’s previous single ‘Juice’ is perhaps one of the best of the year. ‘Cuz I Love You’ is its worthy follow-up--it’s the title track of her upcoming LP, expected in April. ‘Cuz I Love You’ has gorgeous vocals, engaging lyrics, and a catchy vintage stylised hip-hop/R&B instrumental to boot.
