New Music Friday - 08/02/2019
And we're back! Welcome to Livewire's first New Music Friday of the year in which we run through some of the hottest tracks of the week for your listening pleasure. This week we have a huge new track from UK stars AJ Tracey and Giggs with 'Nothing But Net', a synth-pop banger from new sensation Khalid with 'Talk' and a classic indie rock tune courtesy of Honeyblood with 'The Third Degree'.
Khalid (Ft. Disclosure) - Talk
Taking some notes right out of the synthwave genre, American singer-songwriter Khalid's has teamed up with dance giants Disclosure on his new track, 'Talk', a classic pop track featuring some glistening synth notes underneath his classic vocals and while his voice does tend to get a little lost in the the instrumental, the track is too fun not to bop along to.
Ariana Grande - break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored.
To celebrate to release of her massive new album thank u, next, American pop icon Ariana Grande dropped the hypnotic and bouncy 'break up with your boyfriend, i'm bored', an elusive and whimsical slapper of a track that sees Ariana combining tight melodies with an intoxicating instrumental. Conforming to the current musical giant, Ariana introduces some trap-like drums into the mix, making for a fun and mysterious pop-trap banger.
AJ Tracey (Ft. Giggs) - Nothing But Net
After what feels like a decade, one of the UK's biggest stars, AJ Tracey, has finally released his debut album and one of it's standout moments comes courtesy of 'Nothing But Net' a rhythmic showcase of some of the UK's biggest talents. While AJ Tracey has been a bit hit or miss as of late, this track is just too fun not to enjoy and is bound to be one of UK Hip-Hop's biggest hits in the coming weeks, but then again, when Giggs is on the track it's pretty much a hit already.
The Chemical Brothers - Gotta Keep On
It seems these UK electronica legends are not set on slowing down anytime soon as The Chemical Brothers continue to push out fantastic and consistent music as their new track 'Gotta Keep On' is infectiously fun. Combining funky guitars with some disco-y percussion, the boys have made yet another utterly dancable track as they continue to impress me on the come up to their new album, dropping in early April.
Honeyblood - The Third Degree
As Honeyblood moves forward as a solo project, we are treated to the first single of their new album In Plain Sight, a track that is nice on the ears but ultimately doesn't leave much of an impact as 'The Third Degree' begins to get a little grating by the third chorus, with Stina Tweeddale's fuzzy vocals ringing over the simple but melodic guitar lead.
Fontaines D.C - Big
One of Livewire's ones to watch for 2019 is already making movements as Irish post-punk boys Fontaines D.C announced their debut album Dogrel with the short but sweet 'Big', a personal and triumphant track that is sure to make some waves in the UK rock scene with it's repetitive chorus and drum loop that is hard not to find compelling.
