Main Playlist Update 3/12/18
This week has been great for music. We've reflected this in the updated playlist, adding Nina Nesbitt's 'Colder' to the A List, and adding the new Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus track 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart'. To the B List, we've added Grimes' ft Hana 'We Appreciate Power', Kaytranada with 'Chances', and 'Doorman' by Slowthai ft. Mura Masa. After winning Battle of the Bands last Wednesday, UEA band Bag of Cans are now on our C List. As always, we've got the best picks from this week's new music below.
Alice Merton - Funny Business
Off the back of the wildly successful ‘No Roots’, the German-Canadian-English artist Alice Merton is back with alt-indie-pop track ‘Funny Business’. The song features her trademark soulful vocals and upbeat instrumental. Her debut album Mint is due for release 18th January.
Cheat Codes ft. Kim Petras - Feeling of Falling
A song that was written with the intention of sounding like a bittersweet new relationship, EDM trio Cheat Codes team up with millennial pop princess Kim Petras for new track ‘Feeling of Falling’. With the contrast of the butterflies of a new relationship and the lingering emotions of a past breakup evident in the lyrics, it’s a track to be remembered.
Emily Burns - Damn Good Liar
London-via-Rugby artist Emily Burns’ new track ‘Damn Good Liar’ sees her solidify as a rising alt-pop star. Produced by Charli XCX collaborator Siba, the track is emotionally deep and vibrantly neat.
Ex:Re - Romance
Daughter frontwoman Elena Tonra’s new project, ‘Romance’ comes from her self-titled debut album. Released on Friday with no prior singles, the album is glacial and atmospheric, with taut emotion throughout.
Joe Avio - Baby
The first track from the artist, ‘Baby’ is ridiculously silky, Joe’s production is exciting and intricate, and his songwriting is airtight. Joe Avio as an artist is somewhat of an enigma, having only released two songs.
Murlo - Evaporate
Released alongside the announcement of his debut album, Murlo’s new single ‘Evaporate’ is an electronic smash. The Manchester producer’s instrumental track launches the stratosphere over its three-minute duration.
Pizzagirl - kisses xx
Recorded entirely in his home studio named The Beatzzeria, Pizzagirl’s new EP season 2 is a dreampop lover’s ideal release. Single ‘kisses xx’ is no different, with spiralling hooks and ambient vocals throughout.
Pottery - Hank Williams
Based in Montreal with members from London and Canada, Pottery’s debut single ‘Hank Williams’ showcases a melting of garage punk and dance pop. Sonically diverse and undefinable, the track pays homage to country legend Hank Williams, and comes amongst their announcement of a Parquet Courts support slot.
Rina Sawayama - Flicker
Latest single from the Japanese-British artist, ‘Flicker’ is a colourful and dynamic pop track. Meant to uplift “people of colour who are misunderstood for who they truly are”, the pop is ecstatic and powerful.
The Van-T’s - Suis-Je Cool
Glaswegian twins front this glam grunge band, whose single ‘Suis-Je Cool’ is the first from the quartet in over a year. The song has tinges of guitar pop and retro grunge, which makes it all the more evolving and electric.
