Main Playlist Update 19/11/18
There have been quite a few changes in our playlist this week.
We've added ZAYN ft. Nicki Minaj's 'No Candle No Light' to the A List, and have moved 'Close to Me ft. Swae Lee' by Ellie Goulding x Diplo and 'I Found You' by Benny Blanco and Calvin Harris up from B List. There are three new tracks on B List: Christine & the Queens with 'The Walker', 'Light On' by Maggie Rogers, and 'All My Friends Are Falling In Love' by The Vaccines. New on the C List are Little Simz and Sorry, with their tracks 'Offence' and 'Starstruck', respectively.
As always, our New Music Playlist showcases the very best of unknown artists.
Crewel Intentions - Cruel Intentions: Ex-Palma Violets bassist and vocalist Chilli Jesson’s new band Crewel Intentions have just released their new single. The track is a follow up to their debut single ‘Youth in Overload’. Sharing its name with the band themselves the new single is a slow country-esq waltz through the inner meanderings of Chilli’s mind.
Fontaines D.C - Too Real: Fontaines D.C. met as a quintet in Dublin, influenced and driven in equal measure by the rich history of their hometown’s counter-culture, their response has been to make concise and immediately authentic post-punk, channeling often-unassumingly poetic lyrics with a distinctive gritty Irish brogue that has done anything but fall on deaf ears. Their new track ‘Too Real’ is the prefect reflection of this – you can catch them supporting Shame in Norwich on the 26th.
Glows - Foam: London producer GG Skips, aka Glows, is back with an eclectic new track ‘Foam’. With calming vocals riding over a smooth guided beat it is a great accompaniment to the slow winter days.
Greentea Peng - Mind: ‘Mind’ is the new track from South London rapper Aria who goes by the stage name Greentea Peng. The calm and considered track features on her debut EP ‘Sensi’ which highlights the vocal and lyrical talents of this artist.
Holly Walker - Straight Line: London singer-songwriter Holly Walker pairs sharp lyrics with soulful vocals for timely, off-kilter pop in debut single ‘Straight Line’.
Kara Marni - Move: Following on from the release of her exemplary debut EP ‘Love Just Aint Enough’ and a summer jam-packed with festivals including Isle of Wight, Rize, and barn on the farm, 21-year-old R&B powerhouse Kara Marni returns with a fierce, formidable and infectious new single in the shape of ‘Move’.
Seline Karthage - Ruler: Ruler’ is 2 minutes 50 seconds of pure, unfiltered Serine Karthage attitude and is a near-perfect introduction to a larger-than-life artist who describes herself as “the human cartoon”. Written during a period of homelessness when she was at her lowest point, ‘Ruler’ – with its key “I’m gonna be a ruler and that” hook – is a future-classic survival anthem, acting as a self-fulfilling mantra, a self-motivating personal pick-me-up, and a defiant reaction to anyone who’d dismissed her craft.
Ten Tonnes - Better Than Me: Contrasting dark, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with uplifting energy and an immediately insistent hook, ‘Better Than Me’ adds another dimension to Ten Tonnes growing catalogue of modern indie anthems. One of the last songs to be written (with former Kaiser Chief Nick Hodgson) for the album, Ten Tonnes.
Tyne - If I Were To Lose You: Cambridge-based songstress Grace Shelley, also known by her stage name as Tyne, has just released a new single titled ‘If I Were To Lose You’. This is a simple and but perfectly written pop song encapsulating the essence of a great love song.
YOWL - John the Collector: Peckham five-piece YOWL have announced their new single 'John the Collector'. The single follows the release of YOWL's third single for ‘Warm (In The Soft White Fire Of Modern Living)’. Speaking about the single, singer Gabriel Byrde says: “It’s a loose delve into the male psyche. It’s about a guy who tries to open up a little more and realises the only way he can do that is to murder his friends and stick their faces onto his walls so he has someone to talk to at all times.”
