Main Playlist Update 15/10/18
We haven't changed much this week on the Main Playlist, because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. We've taken off Years & Years and DJ Khaled & Justin Bieber, and we've moved Charli XCX and Troye Sivan, as well as Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar, to the A List. Our New Music Playlist, as ever, showcases the best of underground artists.
Egyptian Blue - To Be Felt Brighton-based band Egyptian Blue’s new single ‘To Be Felt’ carries a sense of bewilderment. The track is a post-punk tinged crescendo, with incongruous jagged guitars and trembling percussion.
Heavy Lungs - Blood Brother Punk band Heavy Lungs’ latest track ‘Blood Brother’ harkens back to call-and-response vocals, with an infectious chorus. ‘Blood Brother’ comes alongside an announcement of a shared 7” EP with Bristol punks IDLES.
Hugo Z - The Swell Norwich band Hugo Z return with new track ‘The Swell’. Psychedelic indie dream-pop combined with heady lo-fi atmospheres, ‘The Swell’ is a track that manages to paint a room.
Jodi Guthro - Shots Fired Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jodi Guthro utilises her Cape Breton musical roots to become a musical force to be reckoned with. ‘Shots Fired’ is a bold pop record, not afraid to challenge boundaries.
King William Street - Pretty Acoustics UEA’s own King William Street release the energetic and jagged ‘Pretty Acoustics’. With episodic structures and rolling guitars, ‘Pretty Acoustics’ is an indie-rock achievement.
PLAZA - In the Know PLAZA’s newest single ‘In the Know’ brings the band right back into view with an almost effortless combination of delicate, DIIV-like guitars and fiery grunge attitude.
SASAMI - Not the Time The new single from ex-Cherry Glazerr keyboardist Sasami Ashworth, ‘Not the Time’ is an indie-rock masterpiece. Combining dreamy layers and grungy guitars, ‘Not the Time’ is soft and sweet.
Super Lemon Days - Saviours of Rock and Roll Birmingham’s Super Lemon Days’ newest single ‘Saviours of Rock and Roll’ is an indie rock hit filled with big riffs, sweet synths and hook heavy choruses. Self-described as a citrus celebration, ‘Saviours of Rock and Roll’ does what it says on the tin.
Wyldest - Headrush London trio Wyldest reveal news of their forthcoming debut album Dream Chaos with the help of lead track ‘Headrush’. ‘Headrush’ is both dreamy and unnerving, holding tones reminiscent of Warpaint, and is their lead single from their long-awaited debut record.
