New Music Friday: 09/03/18

In the ever-changing world of music, it’s nice to have a quick run-down of some tracks that you’ll be hearing in the next few months, especially tracks you’ll be hearing on Livewire. These five singles came out yesterday (9th March), and are bound to be popular.

Newest single to be released off upcoming album I Don’t Run, out April 6th, Hinds previewed ‘The Club’ last week. Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Monday (5th March), ‘The Club’ has Hinds’ characteristic homemade style, with sliding guitars and an authentic charm. Listen to ‘The Club’ below.

Riding off the success of ‘Opps’, ft. Kendrick Lamar from the Black Panther soundtrack, Vince Staples released ‘Get The F*** Off My D***’ yesterday. The newest track since LP Big Fish Theory, released last summer, ‘Get The F*** Off My D***’ is a defensive statement from the Californian rapper. Justifying his often avant-garde creative choices and criticising music critics (namely the Grammys), ‘Get The F*** Off My D***’ shows no soft side. Check it out below.

Emerging from the metaphorical musical abyss, Years & Years’ ‘Sancitify’ is a dystopian-drenched modern synth-pop track. With the video teasing a larger dystopian universe, Olly Alexander’s keyboard trio use interesting percussion and layered hooks in the track. It’s the first song since 2015’s debut LP. Watch the music video below.

Another track tinged with extraordinary influences, Ocean China’s ‘Chinese Assassin’ is a wavey, beat-heavy hip-hop single. Featured on Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ playlist, the second single from the British recording artist should be huge. Check it out on YouTube below.

The next single from their upcoming album, 7, Beach House’s ‘Dive’ is characteristically atmospheric, with hushed notes of guitars and dreamy vocals littered throughout. ‘Dive’ tests the boundaries of dream pop, whilst remaining otherworldly and calming. Listen below.
