Sportswire World Cup Preview

With the world cup just around the corner we got some of Livewire's finest footballing minds to give you their predictions. Just dont put any money on it.....
World Cup Winner

Ross Ashby: Spain to play Brazil in the final but Spain to win. Showed that they can do it on the big stage in the Euros, need to repeat that at the world cup.
Mark Bell: Spain. Barring any unforeseen injuries they have the strongest squad and are also massively confident after their Euro 2008 victory and subsequent run of form.
Charlie Horwood: Favourites hardly ever win and I think this year Brazil can sneak it. Not a classic Brazilian side but still quality, with a coach who appreciates that teams need to be able to defend too.

Norwich City - It couldn't be a better story...

Heard the one about the team who get thrashed on their return to a lower league, sack their manager and then go on to play the best football that the crowd have seen for years on the way to the league title...?

A rather specific plot line, I will admit, but fairytale stuff nonetheless for UEA's local team, Norwich City.

The shame of relegation hit the club hard - the board was entirely reshuffled and there were even calls for the head of Delia Smith, who surely put the club into cult status with the "motivational" "Lets Be Havin You!" speech - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_8JLkwzpd0

Bryan Gunn was never up for the job - As a fan, he has a hero status as one of the clubs best ever goalkeepers but the performance he got from the team was poor. His signings will leave a longer legacy than he ever has as a manager, but more about the players later.

Ego is King in Madrid.

Kaka
Do we all laugh at Real Madrid now? After spending the GDP of a small country on players over the summer Madrid had their sights set firmly on the Champions League and certainly expected to do better than the second round. As per usual the Madrid press and mouthpieces are President Perez are already gearing up for the sacking of Coach Manuel Pellegriniin the summer regardless of whether or not they win the league. It is all depressingly or amusingly familiar depending on how you look at it.

The Man Who Cried Wolf

There is, if we are honest, no such thing as a neutral observer when it comes to Manchester United. With their domination of all thing Premier League since I was in nappies its difficult not to have an opinion on them. Growing up watching them clean up almost every trophey in sight made them difficult to love and this has certainly not been helped by the constant ranting by the 'master of the mind game' Sir Alex Ferguson and its due to this that its tough to feel any sympathy for them after the loss to Chelsea.
