This years committee elections are fast approaching and below is all the information you need! Firstly I would encourage all of you to think about applying for committee positions this year. Having been on the committee this year I have met so many people, had a lot of fun and learnt so much. I can honestly say I would recommend it to anyone!

As always the committee positions this year are divided into elected and selected positions. If you choose to stand for one of the elected positions (Social Secretary, Head of Publicity, Head of Factual, Head of Daytime, Head of Alternative and Station Manager) you will need to prepare a manifesto of your ideas and submit them tosociety.manager@livewire1350.com by 12pm on Monday 23rd April. You will then be required to make a brief speech about your policies and explain why you are the best person for that role at the Livewire election evening. The Livewire Election evening will take place in in The Hive at 7pm on Friday 4th May. Society members will then vote and the candidate with the most votes will assume that role in the 2012/13 Livewire committee.
If you choose to stand for one of the selected positions (Head of Music, Head of Creative Content and Head of Live Events Team) the process is slightly different. You will still submit your manifestos tosociety.manager@livewire1350.com by 12pm on Monday 23rd April but you will not be required to make a speech at the election evening. Instead you will be invited to an interview where the new elected committee will appoint the respective heads of each role based on the strength of their interview and manifesto. Interviews will take place between Monday 7th and Friday 11th of May.
*IMPORTANT*

This year there is a key change to how the elections will run. If a candidate is unsuccessful in standing for either ‘Head of Daytime’, ‘Head of Specialist’ or ‘Station Manager’ he/she will be permitted to stand for one other committee position (selected or elected). However the second position cannot not be any of the three listed above.
For example:
  • If standing for ‘Head of Daytime’ and you are unsuccessful you could not stand for ‘Head of Specialist’ or ‘Station Manager’ and vice versa
  • However if standing for Head of Daytime and you are unsuccessful you could stand one of the other selectedor elected position (Social Secretary, Head of Publicity, Head of Factual, Head of Music, Head of Creative Content, Head of Live Events Team)
By running the elections in this way it is hoped that it will provide us with the strongest 2012/13 committee!
NOTE: If applying for either ’Head of Daytime’, ‘Head of Specialist’ or ‘Station Manager’ and would like to have to option to apply stand for another committee position if you are unsuccessful you must submit manifestos for BOTH positions to society.manager@livewire1350.com by 12pm Monday 27th April.

KEY DATES
  • All manifestos for both elected and selected positions must be submitted tosociety.manager@livewire1350.com by 12pm on Friday the 27th April
  • If standing for a selected positon you will be required to make a breif election speech at the Livewire Election Evening which will take place on in The Hive at 7pm on Friday 4th April
  • Interviews for the selected position will take place between the 7th - 11th of May in Union House.
Below are brief descriptions written by this years committee to give you an idea of what all the roles entail so you can make an informed decision about what role might best suit your skills and interests. If you have any questions at all about the running of this years elections feel free to contact me at social.sec@livewire1350.com.
Good luck with your assignments and see you after Easter!

Aside from that I also manage the contract we have with Odeon which allows us to get free film viewings for the Film show, and that involves regular emails and contacting the Film team each week. As manager of the station you will strive to expand the listenership on campus and have the final decisions on the ‘sound’ of the station. Selected Positions

Head of Live Events Team (selected)

The stations live events play a big part in upholding the image and raising the profile of the station. There are two major events on the Livewire calendar: Livewire Unsigned (a battle of the bands), and Hearing Aid (a two phase charity fundraiser consisting of Jailbreak and a night of entertainment in the Blue Bar).

In order for both events to be successful they require A LOT of planning, organizing and man-hours. This is why this year we have decided to redefine the role as ‘Head of Live Events Team’. You will have to have a clear understanding of everything the events are suppose to comprise of and delegate the workload accordingly amongst your team. The society and (committee especially) will always be willing to help out as much as they can but it requires you to have a clear idea of what you need them to help out with.

It is vital that you begin planning ahead well in advance of the scheduled events, giving yourself enough time to deal with any unforeseen problems as there are always a few.

I may have made this seem a lot more formal and boring than it is but I’m in the midst of writing an essay. It’s actually really good fun, I had an absolute blast doing it this year even though it was pretty stressful at times. A clear vision of how you want things to run and getting things sorted well in advanced will stand you in good stead.

If you want to meet up and discuss the role any further, which I think would be a good idea drop me an email at the address below!

Head of Creative Content (new role for 2012 - selected)

As the first Head of Creative Content, it is your responsibility to make Livewire a polished radio station! You will need to work with DJ’s with jingles and make sure that the shows are coming across as professional as they can be! You will also take charge of managing the website and editing/publishing any content that needs to go up on it - this will mostly be interviews with bands!

If your are thinking of applying to be this years Head of Creative Content and have any queries about the role feel free to contact me on the e-mail address below!

Contact me at: publicity@livewire1350.com
Head of Music (selected)

I sort out the playlist biweekly making sure it’s a variety of music suitable for daytime. I do this by holding meeting weekly with my team and we discuss what we think of new tracks. I also get in touch with agencies and PR people and all that to sort out interviews/sessions etc. And I present the Music team show that anyone can join in with, playing the team’s favourites and new stuff and stuff.
If anyone is considering running I would highly recommend meeting up with me before elections to have a chat and that!
